About the Super Groovers
"The Super Groovers" consists of a core group of two super talented musicians Frank Villafranca playing tenor, alto and soprano saxophones and Andrew D. Gordon playing keyboards, guitar, bass, computer programming, creating modern jazz/funk/latin/blues grooves influenced from the 60's & 70s with great grooves, catchy melodies and plenty of atmosphere. Their first album is called "Supergroovin" consisting of 8 songs totalling 53 minutes of music.
The Super Groovers have recently added two great musicians, Joe DeSa - guitar and Dave Robinson - drums to their line up.
Joe DeSa is an accomplished guitarist, composer, arranger and author based in Los Angeles, California. Influenced by YES, Jeff Beck, Alan Holdsworth, John Mclaughlin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Lo Borges, and many other rock, jazz and fusion artists, Joe toured extensively opening for several of them in his native Brazil. He eventually found his way to Berklee College of Music in where he graduated with a degree in Professional Music in 2000. Joe De Sa has collaborated in projects alongside artists such as Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers, Michael Breker, Barry Manilow, Chuck Loeb, as well as producers Desmond Child (Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith) and John Shanks (Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette, Fleetwood Mac, Celine Dion) and the Brasil Brazil band. Having published two successful guitar books, “100 Ultimate Jazz Riffs for Guitar” and “Ultimate Latin Riffs” through A.D.G. Productions, he is the Music Director of the Rock Nation school in Santa Monica, CA. Joe is an active guitarist, songwriter, producer and tours nationally and internationally with a variety of artists of many different musical styles such as Pop/Rock, World Music and Fusion.
Dave Robinson was born and raised in Greenwich Connecticut, He began playing drums at age 10 in his school's jazz ensemble. By the time Dave was a teenager he was playing with a number of local groups, peaking with a stint with 60's era Motown group the Chiffons.
Besides Motown, Dave was exposed to a variety of styles including jazz, funk, rock and blues and he saw a number of 60's music icons up and down the east coast at a number of famous venues and events.
In 1977 Dave moved to Los Angeles where he continued playing drums with countless local groups, serving as a self-described “jukebox drumming machine.”
Dave comes to The Super Groovers after successful stints with local blues/rock act Crossfire and a short lived stint with MidnightGroove.
He sites a number of influences from the greats he grew up on like Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, Buddy Miles and Mitch Mitchell to today's players like Steve Gadd,Billy Cobham, Dave Weckl, Jeff Porcaro,Tony Williams, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chile Peppers) and Adrian Young (No Doubt)and so many more.
