Best Beginner Blues Exercises For Trumpet

Catalog no. ADG259

Author Andrew D. Gordon

As a musician and educator with decades of experience, I’ve had the joy of helping thousands of students discover the excitement and soul of Blues music for numerous instruments. Best Beginner Blues Exercises for Trumpet was created with one goal in mind: to give beginners a fun, accessible, and musically rich introduction to the world of Blues.

In this book, you’ll find 25 original exercises that I’ve composed specifically for those just starting their journey. These aren’t dry drills—the exercises blend elements of Blues, Rock, Funk, Country, Gospel, Boogie-Woogie styles. I’ve simplified them intentionally so that you can play them comfortably, while still capturing the feel and spirit of each genre.

Exercises are notated mainly in accessible concert keys (C, G, D, F, and A minor) and are presented at slow to moderate tempos to support skill acquisition and musical fluency.

Each of the 25 exercises have been recorded twice, the 1st. time, the Trumpet part with a rhythm backing track followed by a rhythm backing track to practice with that consists of 4 choruses of the 12 Bar Blues progression. The backing tracks will, I am sure, make the music come alive as you play along with what sounds like a real band while you practice developing your musical skills promoting independent practice, improvisation, and rhythmic coordination.
