"Celtic Music for Guitar" by Allan Alexander contains 31 songs transcribed for guitar, most of them originating from Ireland and Scotland. The book also includes three charming original pieces written in the Celtic style by Allan. The music is presented in both music notation and guitar tablature (for people that do not read music). Play the beautiful haunting melodies of the Irish Harper O'Carolan, take a musical journey with dances that were written more than 400 years ago and experience Celtic traditional music that is the mainstay of modern players.

If you are learning and looking for great music, this is one book that you will not be able to put down. If you are a performer looking for high quality material, these great pieces, expertly arranged, will become part of your permanent repertoire.

The CD, played by Allan Alexander, gives the musician the advantage of being able to hear how these songs should be played by an expert in this genre of music and will make the learning process easier. Many of these pieces were written for the lute, however Allan has found that they work very well on guitar. Being an accomplished player of both lute and guitar, he has the knowledge to make accurate, musical transcriptions. Other pieces are traditional tunes that have been arranged specifically for guitar. Many of the selections have variations on the original melodies. This adds another dimension to pieces and enhances a performance. Allan is a professional performer and these selections are part of Allan's permanent repertoire.

Customer Comment About This Book:
Dear Allan, I have played guitar in rock bands for 20 some years and recently stopped the bar scene.I got tired of getting home at 4AM smelling like cigarettes. ( ( don't even smoke) I have always felt there was something more to learn as well. I recently came across your Celtic CD #1 in a music store and have found what I am looking for. I have always felt a strong attachment to Celtic music, clothing, artifacts etc. and when I played your CD those feelings returned again. I'm an average guitar player (probably a better singer) but your book is clear and concise and very easy for a neophyte like me to understand. I work as a Registered Nurse in an emegency room (high stress environment) and playing your CD in the car to and from work has been excellent for my mental health. So thank you for new horizons and beautiful music. Rick Benjamin P.S. my wife thinks this beats the hell out of the Rolling Stones

I own several collections of celtic gutiar music, including the Mel Bay "Complete Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar book" but if i could only keep one, this would be it. Allexander's arrangements are excellent as is the selection. From well known carolan pieces to beautiful tunes from the Scotish and Irish traditions, from dance tunes to slow airs. The pieces also range in difficulty from the relatively simple to the intricate, though unlike many other books, the simple peices in here, like the Queen's Dream, are beautiful and worth playing no matter how good you are. The three original pieces in the book are not served well by their description as charming. "Heartland Air" doesn't look out of place in company with Carolan's tunes. The cd is excellent.
