Latin Jazz Piano Volume 1 Slightly Damaged
Author: Carlos Campos
Publisher: ADG Productions
Many musicians find that Latin Jazz and Salsa are still very difficult to feel and play in an authentic, relaxed way. This type of music with its unique rhythmic concept presents quite a challenge for the aspiring young performer.Mr. Campos’ books titled “Salsa: Afro-Cuban Montunos for Piano” and “Salsa: Further Adventures in Afro-Cuban Music” have done a great service to the musical community by making Latin musical styles more accessible to students worldwide. In his two previous books, Mr. Campos dealt with different aspects of Afro-Cuban piano comping patterns, also called “Montunos.”
In his latest 85 page book, “Latin Jazz Piano, Vol. 1,” Mr. Campos breaks new ground by presenting eight different songs in eight different authentic Latin styles such as Salsa, (chord progession to "A Night In Tunisia"), Mambo, ( chord progression to "Manteca"), Nanigo, ( chord progression to "Afro Blue"), Cha Cha, ( chord progression to "Song For My Father"), Bolero, ( chord progession to Besame Mucho"), Songo, (chord progression to "Green Dolphin Street"), Merengue, (chord progression to "April In Paris") and Baião, (chord progression to "St. Thomas"). Each selection has been beautifully recorded and contains a note for note musical transcription of both the piano comping section and the piano solos. As if this weren’t enough, Midi files of all eight recordings accompany this book. Much care was taken in transcribing and notating all of the music in this book to ensure that all of the unique idiomatic expressions of Mr. Campos’ performances were accurately captured, while at the same time making the songs easy to read and learn.
A.D.G. we believe that this book will become a classic and that it will inspire both young and mature players alike. We hope that Latin Jazz and this book finds a special place in your musical world and that it easily becomes integrated into your daily musical practice.
